A great night on November the 5th was very much enjoyed by those who attended the annual display.

The Abbotskerswell Recreation Association (ARA) and the Primary School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association held their annual Fireworks and Barbecue night on November the 5th.

Over 800 mums, dads, kids, grandparents and other residents came through the gates and enjoyed a great night of sparklers, food and fireworks.

This year, terrible weather leading up to the night and rival events in neighbouring villages led to much lower profits than in previous years.

Takings for the fireworks and barbecue were less than half the balance of last year, and we were disappointed that many watched outside the gates and from Priory road without offering a donation. There were many, however, who did give a donation and we thank them enormously.

The ARA gate takings are used to pay for next years fireworks display, maintenance of the sports courts, pavilion, children's playground and other facilities as well as to give grants to village sports and other groups.

After completing the £130,000 sports courts last year we have just had the safety surfaces around the playground renewed at a cost of over £6,000. All of this comes from grants or fund-raising. The fireworks are our main fund-raising event so please support us next year.
