Councillor : Shirley MADDICOTT

I am a true Devonian, born and bred, and have lived in Abbotskerswell for 39 years, representing you as your Parish Councillor since 1988. I have enjoyed it so much it does not seem 19 years since I started my life as a Councillor. I am a widow with three grown up children and five grandchildren, which also keeps me busy.

During my time on the Council I have been Vice Chairman, representing the Parish Council on TALC (Teignbridge Association of Parish Councils) for many years and on the Teignbridge Partnership Committee. I am Chairman of the Abbotskerswell Recreation Association (ARA). I did at one time become a School Governor on behalf of the council for 4 years.

I am the Chairman of our Village Hall Trust, so as you can imagine I don’t get a lot of time for myself, but that is what I like to - being kept busy and helping the community.

I really do enjoy my time doing Council work because it has its rewards and a nice feeling to it when you can help other people with their problems, either big or small, it does not matter, and giving me satisfaction that a good job has been done.

I also want to keep the village just what it says - a village with green field surrounding us, we do not what it to become a town.
