Councillor : David MUNDEN
I have been on the Parish Council since 1998, and for most of that time, I have been Chairman. I have particular responsibility for the local public rights of way, being the Footpaths Co-ordinator and I am also the Council’s representative on the Stoneycombe Quarry liaison group, the Allotment Association and the emergency planning team, as well as liaising on highway and environmental matters with the County Council.
My career was also spent in local government, and although I am a qualified accountant, after spending my early years in finance, I ended up as Deputy Director of Social Services with Devon County Council. However, my final year saw me take charge of the re-organisation of local government in Devon, when Torbay and Plymouth once again became independent of the County.
With my wife Peggy, I have lived in Abbotskerswell for the last 20 years, and have two daughters, Kate and Rebecca and two grandchildren, Ben and Megan. I enjoy gardening and walking, particularly on Dartmoor where I organise monthly walks for ex local government officers! I have always had a great interest in wildlife and the environment, being a member of both the RSPB and BCS (Butterfly Conservation Society). I will always try to ensure that conservation and the preservation of our environment takes high priority in all decisions which affect our lovely village.
I am also a Trustee of the Abbotskerswell Beer and Food Festival.
