Councillor : Ann DOWN
As a true Devonian I was born in Ashburton at the family farm which my father had lived in for all of 76 years. After leaving school I helped on the family farm before marrying my husband, Charles, who I met at the local Young Farmers group.
I moved to Abbotskerswell in 1978, and Charles and I have 3 children, Victoria, Lisa and Merv, who also value living in this lovely area of Devon.
I have a genuine interest in the countryside and have helped the village with certain activities thanks to Gemtrust (the Landfill Tax credit scheme) - the most exciting being the children's cycle track, ear loops in the church & skateboard park.
I am a member of the Abbotskerswell Recreation Association, serving on the ARA committee through the Parish Council, and acting as co-ordinator for the ARA draw, which raises substantial funds for village projects.
I am a Trustee of Abbfest Beer and Food Festival, a successful fundraising event held in October every year.
I am an active member of the Abbotskerswell Netball Club, and I enjoy gardening, cooking and reading . . . . . If I have any spare time!
Finally, I consider it vital that the countryside is preserved for future generations and I think that it is important that everybody in a village has the opportunity to be heard and valued. As a Parish Councillor I hope that I am able to express other people's ideas and opinions in order to sustain and develop a true village community atmosphere.
