Teignbridge District Council has just completed a very professional survey of the residents of Abbotskerswell concerning the housing requirements in the years to come. The village is a highly desirable location to live in and that creates difficulties for some regarding the affordability of housing.
The survey revealed that there is a need for 11 new homes in the village; four of which are rented and seven of which are shared ownership.
RECOMMENDATIONS
A provision of additional affordable houses is needed to meet local needs in the parish of Abbotskerswell. The need is for 4 rented homes and 7 shared ownership properties. The need is mainly for two bedroom homes - though for stock balance there may be value in providing a number of three bedroom properties, and a four bedroom shared ownership home is needed.
FINDINGS
The survey found that eleven respondents in housing need could not afford to buy or rent in the open market, seven may be able to afford to buy a shared ownership property.
