Fresh & Early 2nd Sunday of each month

Since January 2008, once a month, St Mary's Church, Abbotskerswell, has been doing something new; something different - a cafe church; Fresh & Early. It's different because it's not in Church; it's different because it starts with food! It's different because the time of worship is only about half an hour. It's a period of sustenance - both physical and spiritual - before the start of a busy day!

Fresh & Early is an informal approach to worship using contemporary songs and words; seated around tables and sitting on comfortable chairs, having enjoyed bacon rolls and croissants beforehand. It's interactive, engaging and challenging, and provides something for everyone - for the young in years to the young at heart.

The service is also an opportunity for the three congregations of Abbotskerswell, Coffinswell and Kingskerswell to come together - not only for the actual worship but also in the planning and delivery of the services.

The new service comes out of the desire to reach out to the local community in a way which may be seen as less formal. Fresh & Early also reflects much of the ethos of Fresh Expressions. This is a joint initiative of the Church of England and the Methodist Church and is partly a response to diversification in society; many different cultures and communities sharing the same physical and cultural space.

Our next service is 11th April in Church House, Abbotskerswell; beginning with bacon rolls and croissants at 09:00am.

Refreshing and different!
